Laboratory Syllabus (Fall 2023)

Labs start on Tuesday, August 29, 2023
Lab A: TR 9:30 - 10:55 AM
Lab B: TR 12:30 - 1:55 PM
Each student must purchase, and bring to lab, a permanent marker by September 6
Lab Manual: de Ondarza, J. Laboratory Investigations in Microbiology (on-line).
Optional: A Photographic Atlas for the Microbiology Laboratory, by Leboffe & Pierce, Morton Publishers.
All readings should be done prior to lab.

Lab grading:

Laboratory notebook = 50 points
Laboratory exam = 30 points
Lab skills test (Aseptic technique, quadrant streak, pure culture, microscopy, Gram stain, pipetting) = 40 points
Lab practicum (Identification of reactions & stained bacteria) = 30 points
Unknown ID = 50 points
TOTAL = 200 points (25% of course total)
MINUS 5 points for each absence beyond maximum allowed (3)
